Welcome tax
The welcome tax (transfer duties) is a provincial and municipal tax paid when you buy property in Quebec. The amount depends on the property value and municipality. This calculator estimates what you'll pay in 2026.
Purchase price or value at time of transfer (for first sale by an individual, often the price paid).
Some cities apply different rates for the welcome tax (transfer duties). Others use the provincial standard rate.

The tax is calculated in brackets on the property value (tax base = value you entered). We apply 2026 brackets for the municipality you chose: each value bracket is taxed at its rate (e.g. standard: 0.5% up to $62,900, 1% from $62,900 to $315,000, 1.5% above). Montreal and other cities have different brackets and rates; the total is the sum of the amounts per bracket.
